Silver for Zoe at Southerns

Updated: Aug 23, 2019

Zoe Allanson (Cookham Runners) has a great record at the South of England Championships, one which she built on at the Outdoor meet 2019 at the Julie Rose Stadium, Ashford in Kent.

Competing in the U17 High Jump, she produced a flawless opening sequence all the way up to 1.60m. It took two attempts to clear a brilliant 1.63m but this was enough to ensure she won the silver medal for the Championships.

She made several very good attempts at 1.66m one in aprticular which she only just clipped.

Also in great form at this meet was Desola Ominjo competing in the U13 100m. Originally scheduled to compete in both the 100m and 200m the ill thought out timetable made this impractical. Sdaly this was not the only issue which the athletes had toovercome.

Desola, the National Independent Schools Champion, was a comfortable winner of her heat. However, it took two attempts to complete the semi-final successfully as a naive spectator with a whistle caused confusion among the athletes only half of who completed the initial race.

Weary legs were in evidence for the Fial but Desolastill amanged a very impressive fourth place in her first major Championship.
