NEW YEARS DAY OPEN MEET

Updated: Jan 9, 2020

Elliot Marston (WSEH) led a small party of squad athletes o the opening day of the year to the remarkably well attended traditional Lee Valley Open Meet. He was rewarded with a sunbstantial PB in his 200m. He led his heat from the gun and with only the clock to chase reduced his indoor one lap best from 27.14 secs down to 25.55 secs.

Also in PB form was Desola Omonijo in the 60m. In her first race as a U15, she took a large chunk off her best in the first round of races down from 8.72 to 8.55 secs. In the second round she ran in pursuit of a National Indoor qualifying mark of 8.50 secs. While she did succeed in achieving another PB, the qualifying standard just eluded her as she clocked 8.54 secs.

Also gaining 60m PBs were Isla Brown (SEH) and John and Elizabeth Nickless (both Chiltern Harriers) . Moving up into the U17 age group, Isla was timed at 8.61 secs. Making their sprint debuts the Nickless siblings were timed at 8.73 and 9.74 secs respectively in the first round. John succeeded in improving this mark to 8.65 in winning his race in the second round.

ChrosThomas just missed out on a PB best in a rare excursion over the 300m distance clocking 45.06 secs.
